Some web sites even have an online store where you can instantly purchase a product and pay for it without ever leaving your computer. What is Web Design? Web design is the process of building your web site. You may want to build it yourself using a software program, or you might choose to pay someone and have them build it for you. The process involves deciding how you want the site to look, choosing the colors, and putting together all of the text and pictures. Some sites are very simple (as small as one page) with some text and contact information. Other sites have hundreds of pages with dynamically changing content and special features. What is a Domain Name? A domain name is sort of like a phone number for your website. It is the name that someone types into their browser when they want to visit your web site. The domain name for this site is "starwire.net". The domain name you choose should be short and easy to remember if you want to make it simple for people to find your site. What is Web Hosting? Web hosting is the final main component of a web site. To let people visit your site, all of the pages for your site need to be stored on a high-powered computer (called a web server) attached to a very fast internet connection. Web servers are expensive and complicated to operate, so most people choose to rent space on a web server.
