Building a fiber network is a multi-step process. During construction, the fiber crew will work on installing mainline fiber, handholes, marking posts, and drops. As the weather cooperates, our crews will be out working to get this project completed as soon as possible. Once the snow is too deep, the ground is frozen, or once all the mainline is in and all drops are installed, our crew will turn its focus to Splicing the fiber together. When the splicing is complete, we can proceed to install the internet into your location.

The Drop is a small fiber-optic cable that links your location to our fiber mainline. The drop gets installed after the mainline is installed. A member of the Fiber crew will place white flags in the proposed fiber route according to your received Drop Agreement. At that time they will leave an Underground Release form, use this document to indicate to our team where you have buried obstacles on your property. Any private obstacles will need to be marked and exposed, if necessary, by the homeowner. We will then run a small fiber optic cable (drop), from the nearest handhole, through your property, and install it into a fiber enclosure on the side of your building.
Starwire will install our mainline fiber optic cable, handholes, and marking posts in the legal road right-of-way. During the construction, we will make our best efforts to return disturbed areas to their original state. Our crew is small but mighty. Their work is often dependent on weather, ground conditions, and other unforeseen earthly tricks, but rest assured, we’ll be back for restoration to take place.
We install the internet by running an Ethernet cable from the outside fiber enclosure into your location. We then plug that Ethernet cable into a small power supply, from the power supply, an additional Ethernet cable is plugged into your network or wireless router. Once this is finished you are ready to enjoy your new fast, reliable internet service!
There are many small strands of fiberglass in our mainline and each fiber needs to be fused together in order for the Internet service to become "live".
That's okay, if you choose not to sign up with Internet service with us now, just give us a call when you are ready. We will get you on the schedule to build the drop to you at that time. This may cause delays in getting service to your location depending on ground conditions and weather, aka Winter.
How it Works
Step 1
The first step in getting your location connected to our fiber optic network is to complete and submit an Internet Application. By submitting this application, you are granting Starwire permission to install fiber optic cable through your property connecting your home, cabin, or business to our mainline and purchasing service from us when it becomes available.
Step 2
As we get closer to your location, the next step is for Starwire to properly flag the route from our mainline to your location. You will then fill out an Underground Release form, this document is used to indicate to our team where you may have buried obstacles on your property. Any private lines are to be marked by the homeowner. We will then call Diggers Hotline to mark the public utilities.
Step 3
After the drop and splicing is completed, the fiber optic cable is now "live". One of our Team members will reach out to schedule an installation date.
